About

Bio
Sydney Ribot is an Argentine-American writer/director from the Bible Belt. Celebrating oft-overlooked aspects of experience as sites for connection and transformation, her visceral, entertaining dramas explore shared space, feminine interiority, and the line between nature and civilization.
After studying English and Asian & Middle Eastern History at Dartmouth, Sydney directed narrative in Turkey and China before completing a Directing MFA at the AFI Conservatory. Her last film prior to AFI, A REASONABLE MAN, won the Jury Prize for Best Short at RIFF. Her AFI visual essay, A KID AND HIS PANDA, screened at Camerimage, and her thesis, YOURS TO BURY, was shortlisted for the 2021 CAA Student Showcase.
At home among nuance, you can find her in tough situations where nobody is wrong, per se. Her work is marked by irony without emotional distance and guided by the belief that what the conscious mind denies manifests as fate.
